“The Construction Project. From Sketches to Built Architecture” at COAM Madrid

The ‘Building Approval’ is a generally little known process, which nevertheless is key when carrying out architecture projects. The exhibition shows the detail put into the actual construction design of some of Madrid’s most iconic modernist buildings through plans and original documents.

Practical Information

“The Construction Project. From Sketches to Built Architecture”
28 June to 30 July, 2017
COAM – Official College of Architects of Madrid
Calle de Hortaleza, 63, Madrid
Spain

The exhibition aims to show the process of obtaining building approval according to construction drawings -a permit issued out exclusively by COAM- of many of the iconic  architectural projects  in Madrid.

The ‘Building Approval’  is a generally little known process, which nevertheless is key when carrying out Architecture projects. It is a collegial function, delegated by the Public Administration, which verifies and validates the identity of the architect, as well as the integrity of the documentation that is presented.

The exhibition is illustrated with representative documents  of the Historical Service of  COAM and the Public Administration General Archives, and comprises 4 separated display areas that cover the whole of the building approval process: architecture, construction, structure and facilities.

From each selected work, originals and copies of the Buildign Permits can be consulted, showing site plans and locations, elevations, façades, foundations or structural elements. All of these construction plans show the detail put into the actual construction design of the building, as seen in the many plans dedicated to technical facilities such as gas, water and light.
