“Svizzera 240: House Tour” Venice Architecture 2018 Golden Lion for best national participant

The project «Svizzera 240: House Tour» by Alessandro Bosshard, Li Tavor, Matthew van der Ploeg and Ani Vihervaara has been awarded the Golden Lion for best national participation. The exhibition focuses on the unfurnished interior of contemporary housing by celebrating a peculiar form of architectural representation — the «house tour».

A house tour offers a meandering, eye-level view onto the apartment interior. This view consolidates into a series of images, which register the apartment according to the qualities and affects afforded by its quintessential architectural palette: a ±240 centimetre volume dressed with white walls, skirting board, wood or tile flooring and off-the-shelf components and fittings. “Becoming”, Spanish Pavilion at the 2018 Venice Biennale

The curator Atxu Amann and a team of four others have selected, via an open call, 143 proposals that will be shown in the Spanish Pavilionduring the Biennale Architettura 2018, for the first time, Spain will present a virtual pavilion with another 293 proposals. The exhibition reflects the proposals and research that are being developed in learning environments along with the new multidisciplinary nature of architects.

In words of the curator Atxu Amann: “Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara emphasize the concept of generosity, which is important because we have to give space and time to those who are not yet able to build. We have been fortunate: I was already building at the age of 30 and they are young people of 35 and 40 who have never built. On the one hand, this has meant that they have no space for visibility, but on the other hand, it has also caused other readings to be provoked during this time, other architectural themes, other ways of being architects. Venice Architecture Biennale 2018 “FREESPACE”

This year’s Venice Biennale, to be held from Saturday May 26th to Sunday November 25th 2018, has been curated by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Grafton Architects. Under the title “FREESPACE” the mission statement of  the curators of the 16th Mostra Internazionale di Architettura – La Biennale di Venezia, focuses on the question of space, the quality of space, open and free space.

The Awards Ceremony of the 16th International Architecture Exhibition took place on Saturday 26th May 2018 at Ca’ Giustinian, Venice. Portugese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura has been awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale for “Vol De Jour” project exhibited at the Arsenale, while the Swiss Pavilion has been awarded the Best Pavilion as National Participant at the Giardini.
