Marble and geometry: refurbishment in Oporto by FALA ATELIER

The refurbishment of an old clothing store in Oporto into a real estate agency by Portuguese studio Fala Atelier features pure forms, scale and proportions, using different types of marble with an enormous precision.

The clients acquired an old clothing store in the suburbs from Oporto. The brief requested the space to be transformed into a new agency for their real estate company and the intervention had to be designed and implemented in less than 4 weeks. The new design should define the conceptual basis for all their future stores. (more…)

Refurbishment of “906 School” in Sabadell by HARQUITECTES

The principal aim of the intervention, both in the interior and the original street facade, is potentiating the relationship and tension between the old and the new parts, taking advantage of the huge potential of the original building, both the constructed surfaces as well as the useful spaces.

The school is located in the urban city center of Sabadell, in a corner shaped by two buildings aligned to the street. Both volumes create a wide courtyard with a sports center located in the basement. The proposal involves only the oldest building (1959) which hosts the pre-school classrooms and few outdoor spaces. Bernard Schoeller’s “Tournesol” swimming pool renovated by Urbane Kultur

The project preserves the simplicity the original pool: the extensions built over time are demolished, the area liberated by moving the changing rooms allow three stainless steel basins to take place under the dome. The extension building houses the entrance hall, changing rooms, offices and technical rooms.

French firm Urbane Kultur expanded a “Tournesol” swimming pool in Lingolsheim, France. The dome-shaped swimming pool suffered from poor insulation and restricted space for changing rooms. Strasbourg studio Urbane Kultur was assigned to refurbish the building and add an extension at the side for new changing rooms and offices, freeing up space inside for two new swimming pools. (more…)
