Restoration of the market of El Ninot in Barcelona, by Mateo Arquitectura

The market, built in 1928, keeps its original metal-truss roof structure with the addition of a new metal-slatted façade, allowing for a bright and light interior.

On the 19th of May, the city of Barcelona finally inaugurated the market of El Ninot, a restoration of a modernist market of the 1920’s carried out by local architect Josep Lluís Mateo. Originally built in 1928 at the heart of the city’s famous Eixample district, the building remained closed since 2009, when the construction and restoration works began. (more…)
