“Paradigma” Gianluca Peluffo & Partners at the Museo Novecento

Three projects by GianlucaPeluffo&Partners on which the studio is working in Egypt are presented in the exhibition within the second round of “Paradigma. The drawing-board of the architect” at the Museo Novecento, a project made by Sergio Risaliti and curated by Laura Andreini.

The material exposed at the Museo Novecento concerns the foundation of a city – “Il Monte Galala” in Sokhna at the Red Sea and of a new Mosque, both are commissions of the Egyptian society Tatweer Misr. The project of Il Monte Galala has won in 2016 the Dubai Cityscape Award for the best Masterplan in the Middle East region. The second project is characterized by a role for which the architectural language is decisive and that immediately defines the relationship with the location in genealogical terms as wells as regarding a possible future. The third project finally looks at the El Alamein War Museum located at the Mediterranean cost, commissioned by the Ministry of Housing and New Urban Communities of Egypt. (more…)

“Arcipelago Italia” Italian pavilion at the 2018 Venice Biennale

Five ambitious visions rooted in their specific places and able to reactivate diverse communities: / the result of many-voiced, multidisciplinary and inclusive design process, coordinated by Cucinella and his staff, led by six emerging architecturalfirms in collaboration with local universities and numerous excellent professionals in well versed in the local contexts, expert consultants in architecture, community engagement, culture, art, health, mobility, landscape, earthquake and training.

“Arcipelago Italia is a manifesto that points to / possible ways forward for the revival of the interior territories, to restore value and importance to architecture and because the work of the architect must reclaim a role of social responsibility,” says Mario Cucinella, curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. In introducing Arcipelago Italia, he presents five project proposals that show how architecture can offer an opportunity for rebirth for Italy, becoming a tool for discussion and also an aid to community and local administrators. “Between landscapes and history” Wright and organic architecture at IUAV, two exhibitions at the Tolentini

The exhibition aims to illustrate the reception that Frank Lloyd Wright’s lesson and the “organicist” conception had within the IUAV from the post-World War II period.

Some concomitant facts contributed decisively to the development of an original and multifaceted tendency: the presence in the School directed by Giuseppe Samonà of a historian such as Bruno Zevi – of which the centenary of his birth occurs -, the arrival in Venice of Wright and the task attributed to him to design the Angelo Masieri Memorial on the waters of the Grand Canal, the role of “mediator” of the American master’s thought played by Carlo Scarpa, a brilliant, influential and already established architect. “Cartesian Space” AMO for 2019 SS Prada Man’s Show

For the 2019 Spring/Summer fashion show, AMO stages a return to basics with a sophisticated setup that brings fashion into the foreground by questioning the recent practice that sees show sets as explanatory efforts to contextualize collections.

The rough imperfection of the venue in Via Fogazzaro, Milan, is counterbalanced by the Cartesian precision of the set, which magnifies the industrial elegance of the space. The room is treated as an architectural field that controls the show’s dynamics: a grid defines the areas occupied by guests, while four different trajectories are left unoccupied for models to cross the room longitudinally, enforcing a strict serial layout. “Svizzera 240: House Tour” Venice Architecture 2018 Golden Lion for best national participant

The project «Svizzera 240: House Tour» by Alessandro Bosshard, Li Tavor, Matthew van der Ploeg and Ani Vihervaara has been awarded the Golden Lion for best national participation. The exhibition focuses on the unfurnished interior of contemporary housing by celebrating a peculiar form of architectural representation — the «house tour».

A house tour offers a meandering, eye-level view onto the apartment interior. This view consolidates into a series of images, which register the apartment according to the qualities and affects afforded by its quintessential architectural palette: a ±240 centimetre volume dressed with white walls, skirting board, wood or tile flooring and off-the-shelf components and fittings. Architect, painter, sculptor, engraver, lecturer and essayist, Baldeweg has designed some of the most emblematic Spanish buildings of recent decades, among them the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions of Castilla and León in Salamanca, the Altamira Research and Museum Centre in Santillana del Mar, the Teatros del Canal in Madrid, and the Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos (completed in 2012). “The Florence Experiment” at Palazzo Strozzi, Carsten Höller in Florence

This spring-summer Palazzo Strozzi will host The Florence Experiment, a new site-specific project devised by celebrated German artist Carsten Höller and plant neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso, curated by Arturo Galansino, Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi Director General.

Connecting internal and external spaces of the famed Renaissance palace, The Florence Experiment will comprise two experiences – monumental, intertwined slides will spiral visitors down a height of twenty metres, and a ‘live’ analysis of the impact of human emotion on plant growth. The project has been designed to further our understanding of ecology – not only as respect for nature, but as the awareness of empathy between man and his botanical environment. (more…)

“Disegno ergo progetto. Ideas and shapes around architecture” at MAXXI Rome

How do signs/drawings constitute the alphabet of architectural construction? With the aim of a rediscovering the meaning of drawing as a manual gesture and the direct link between mind, heart and body, MAXXI is presenting a selection of works from the Architecture Collections and the latest archives it has acquired in order to tackle the theme of architectural drawing as a mental and spatial process before it is actually architectonic.

Starting out with the vision offered by Aldo Rossi’s Città Analoga in which all the elements of the city and its representation seem to be present, from the composition by parts to the overlaying of plans, from the commemoration of history to the synthesis of the archetype, a series of architectural drawings testify to how the architect arrives at a design through the medium of drawing. “Sacred Space. The Architects and Artists of the Church of the Santo Volto di Gesù” at Nivola museum

The Nivola museum, which has been interested from the beginning in the intersections between art and architecture (one of the main themes of Costantino Nivola’s work in the mid-20th century), presents an exhibition on a project that brought that relationship into the contemporary world.

In 1998, the architects Piero Sartogo and Nathalie Grenon were commissioned to design the church of the Santo Volto di Gesù, a new church in the Magliana neighborhood of Rome, a highly populat- ed area with a long history of social struggle as well as unauthorized building, property speculation, and urban violence. A context as stimulating and complex as the strip of land allocated for the building, a small, narrow corner plot between the broad Via della Magliana and one of its side streets. (more…)

“The Olivetti Idiom (1952-1979)” exhibition at Villa La Pietra Florence

The exhibition seeks to reconstruct through photographs and documents the history of the Olivetti image from 1952 to 1979, examining three places where Olivetti products were displayed (exhibitions, stores and the school), in which narrative forms – oral, written, and visual – of the Olivetti identity were progressively developed.

The Olivetti Idiom (1952-1979) exhibition curated by Caterina Toschi and produced by Ellyn Toscano, New York University Florence, will opened at Villa Sassetti, Florence. The opening was preceded by a rountable discussion at on Olivetti’s visual culture, experimental identity and corporate image between the 1950s and 1980s, and its legacy. (more…)
