Bünder Kunstmuseum extension at Chur by Barozzi Veiga

An independent structure in dialog with the Villa Planta. A reinterpretation of the original Palladian order while using decoration as a way of separating the building from its surroundings. The result is an expressive, compact volume cleverly integrated into the new public space.

The new extension of the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur has been conceived as a simple and compact volume which is perfectly integrated in its immediate urban surroundings. The clear independence of the new building in relation to the adjacent buildings reinforces the importance of the garden in the new Museum area and confers the building an independent and sober appearance.

National Museum Zurich extension by Christ & Gantenbein

The shape, volume and materiality of the building proposed by the Swiss Architects contrast and dialogue with the existing museum by Gustav Gull, built in 1898. The new wing will allocate a library, gallery spaces and an auditorium for the National Museum, but will also create an enclosed garden for visitors.

The extension project for the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar encompasses two ensembles facing each other across the future Unterlinden Square: on one side, the medieval cloister with the chapel currently housing Grünewald’s Isenheim Altarpiece and, on the other, as its counterpart, a new wing similar to the chapel in volume which, together with the former municipal baths buildings, form a second courtyard on the other side of the Unterlinden Square. Between the two, a house marks the museum’s presence in the city. (more…)
