“New Bauhaus Chicago: Experiment Photography and Film” at Bauhaus-Archiv

Extensive photography show to celebrate 80th anniversary of the founding of American school succeeding the Bauhaus. This will be the last exhibition in the Bauhaus-Archiv building before the museum’s modernisation and expansion.

The Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung is presenting the photography of Chicago’s New Bauhaus and the Institute of Design that emerged out of it in a major exhibition running from 15 November 2017 to 5 March 2018. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Bauhaus successor institution that was founded by the avant-garde artist and former Bauhaus teacher László Moholy-Nagy in 1937 and developed into an important centre of photographic education in the US. Bauhaus‐Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung presents “Bauhaus in Motion”

The range of exhibited pieces encompasses works from classes at the Bauhaus – such as motion studies from the preliminary course – as well as paintings, photographs, architectural drafts, furniture, ceramics, metalwork and works on paper.

From 1 March 2017 to 8 January 2018 the BauhausAArchiv / Museum für Gestaltung is showing “Bauhaus in Motion”. This special exhibition presents the connection between the Bauhaus and movement on various levels: the theme of motion can be found in works by famous Bauhaus teachers, such as Walter Gropius, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Oskar Schlemmer and László Moholy-Nagy, as well as in numerous student works. “Modernism on the Main: Frankfurt Art School” exhibition at the Bauhaus‐Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung

Within the framework of its permanent exhibition on the Bauhaus, the Bauhaus-Archiv is now presenting a studio exhibition on the Frankfurt Art School, its links to the Bauhaus and its integration in the design programme and network of the New Frankfurt.

From now on,  the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung is presenting the studio exhibition “The Frankfurt Art School – Modernism on the Main”, which will run until 27 February 2017 and provide new insights into its extensive collections. (more…)

“Moving Forward” winning design and prizewinners for the new Bauhaus-Archiv

The nine designs that were awarded prizes and special mentions in the architecture competition for the renovation and extension of the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung are on exhibition on the future site – in the Berlin Bauhaus institution’s listed building. A total of 41 international architecture offices submitted contributions to the closed competition.

In the exhibition, architectural plans and models will bring to life the winning design and the ideas of the other prizewinners. An extensive supporting programme will include architectural guided tours in the grounds of the Bauhaus-Archiv. A catalogue in German and English is being published to accompany the exhibition.
