“The Japanese House. Architecture & Life after 1945” at the Barbican Centre

Featuring over 40 architects from renowned masters and contemporary architects to exciting figures little known outside of Japan, the exhibition celebrates some of the most ground-breaking architectural projects of the last 70 years.

The Japanese House: Architecture and Life after 1945 is the first major UK exhibition to focus on Japanese domestic architecture from the end of the Second World War to now, a field which has consistently produced some of the most influential and extraordinary examples of modern and contemporary design.

Barbican’s “The World of Charles and Ray Eames” now at MAAT Lisbon

Bringing together over 380 works, through objects and projects produced during the couple’s lifetime, the exhibition presented last year at the Barbican Centre in London will be on show at Lisbon’s Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology until January 9, 2017

The World of Charles and Ray Eames is a major new exhibition surveying the careers of Charles (1907-1978) and Ray (1912-1988) Eames and the extraordinary work of the Eames Office: a ‘laboratory’, active for over four decades, where the Eameses and their collaborators and staff produced an array of pioneering and influential work – from architecture, furniture, graphic and product design, to painting, drawing, film, sculpture, photography, multi-media installation and exhibitions, as well as new models for education.

The World of Charles and Ray Eames was presented last year at the Barbican Centre in London, and opened at MAAT, Museum of Art Architecture and Technology of Lisbon on 5 October 2016.

“The World of Charles and Ray Eames” at Barbican Art Gallery

The story of the Eames Office is that of the trajectory of visual and material culture in the post-war period of the last century. Charles and Ray Eames moved fluidly between the mass-production of objects for everyday use and the transmission of ideas through exhibition, film or installation, in anticipation of the global ‘information age’.
