“Paolo Novelli. La Fotografia come differenza” at La Triennale di Milano

The exhibition focuses on the period 2002-2013 with the aim of highlighting the birth and consolidation of Novelli’s personal style.

The cycles of images reveal an essential photograph, timeless and without place, synthesized by Giovanni Gastel as “photography of solitude”. The other aspect, the technical one, reinforces Novelli’s timeless direction, whose discipline is in fact only one: analogical photography.

All the works are on black and white film, without the use of flash or filters and printed by hand. The analogue shooting is conducted through a premeditated operational anarchy in the use of the camera. The projects chosen address the main theme of Novelli’s research, the lack of communication: closed doors, tunnels, mists, windows and inanimate figures pursue each other over a period of just over a decade through his projects.
