Belonging to the generation preceding those of the main actors of Art Nouveau, the works of Otto Wagner, from the infrastructures of the Vienna metropolitan to the Vienna Savings Bank passing by the St. Leopold church of the Steinhof are today considered as essential milestones to grasp the evolution of this decisive moment in the history of contemporary architecture.
“Otto Wagner. Maître de l’Art nouveau viennois”
13 Novemeber, 2019 – 16 March, 2020
Citè de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine
1 Place du Trocadéro et du 11 Novembre, Paris
The exhibition, designed and produced in co-production with the Wien Museum to commemorate the centenary of his death, is the first monograph devoted to him in France.
Otto Wagner’s masterpieces are highlighted by the restitution of several interiors, revealing the refinement and elegance of his creations. Architect and designer, Otto Wagner was also an exceptional designer; the exhibition thus benefits from the rich collection of drawings from Otto Wagner’s architectural agency which the Wien Museum currently maintains. Finally, the work of Otto Wagner is compared with the Austrian artistic trends of his time in which he successively participated.
An exhibition co-produced by the City of Architecture & Heritage and the Wien Museum in Vienna, with the exceptional support of the Musée d’Orsay. A playground for families, designed with the DADA magazine, is available free of charge at the cash desk. Introduce your children (from 8 years old) to Vienna and Art Nouveau!
