The Architecture Faculties of KU Leuven and HoGent-KASK want to create social support for reducing pavement in the open space. They explore both the physical and mental space for demolition. Everyone knows in his / her neighborhood some kind of construction (building, pavement, …) whose demolition would benefit the open space and the landscape.
“BWMSTR Label / Space for demolition”

However, the effective demolition often seems to be inaccessible and they remain “hard lumps in space”. “Room for demolition” presents the work of students and teachers about demolition in function of more open space and will undoubtedly inspire the discussion about this.
The layering of the problems surrounding demolition is at the basis of the video work in the exhibition. De Cleene De Cleene visited four sites: an empty weekend house, a conservatory, a farm and a shed with adjoining pavement. The visual analysis, together with the input of local residents and passers-by, exposes various meanings of these places.
Also in 2018 – 2019, the Flemish Architecture Institute and deSingel will give the stage to innovative architectural projects with added social value. In the BWMSTR Label exhibition series, we show the work of young researchers who received the Bouwmeester label (BWMSTR Label) from the Vlaams Bouwmeester in 2017.
