This year’s application period for the Big Mat International Architecture Award was closed on May 26, with an unprecendented number of submissions: over 900 applicants from all 7 BigMat countries –Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Czech Republic and Slovakia– have submitted their works for the latest edition of BigMat’s biennial prize.
The Jury will meet at the headquarters of BigMat in Paris in July deciding on the projects going through to the final selection of runner-ups. This year’s jury is comprised by President Jesús Aparicio and Secretary Jesús Donaire, along with the new 2017 additions: Xaveer de Geyter (Belgium -Wallonia and Brussels City), Henrieta Moravčíková (Czech Republic and Slovakia), Paulo David (Portugal and Spain), Marc Barani (France) and Francesco Isidori (Italy).
As a novelty for this 2017 Edition of the BigMat International Architecture Award, an online platform for popular voting will be opened during the month of July. As a result of the online voting a new prize category will be released: the Popular Prize, which will be chosen by the general public.
The Panel of Judges for the BigMat ’17 International Architecture Award are charged with designating the winner of the BigMat ’17 International Grand Prize (30.000€), as well as the winners of the 6 BigMat ’17 National Prizes (5.000€), 6 BigMat ’17 Category Prizes (1.500€), and the BigMat ’17 Special Mention for Young Architects (1.500€). In the interest for disseminating information about the runners-up and the prize winners, a catologue will also be published.
